I’ve always loved art but never felt I had permission to be an artist. The societal and childhood messaging I received was that I had to be of service to the world and have a “real” job.
BUT since I began re-orienting my life to joy, my creativity has blossomed!
In addition to being passionate about writing, I’ve explored many other visual media - printmaking, beading, silversmithing… and then discovered 3-D weaving. I’m hooked!
My Artist’s Statement:
I’m a sculptural weaver, inspired by the sacredness of nature.
In our current moment of climate crisis, habitat loss, and environmental degradation, I make art both to remind us of the beauty that surrounds us, and as a way to honor the sanctity of our earthly home.
I’ve always been interested in sculpture or 3-dimensional work. In 2018, I discovered my passion for weaving, specifically with organic materials (linen, hemp, reed, cane, cedar…) I also enjoy combining media, so sometimes I integrate found and/or sentimental objects. In other works, I embed beaded or enameled pieces. Currently, I’m investigating ways to interweave modern technologies with this ancient art, to celebrate our natural world and the enduring power of human ingenuity.
