Recently I learned a mindful practice that I’ve been using a lot so I thought I’d share it with you.
It’s especially helpful if/when you feel dis-regulated, anxious, or ungrounded.
Find a seat and follow the steps!
Here’s how to do it:
1. Sit comfortably in a chair
2. Close your eyes
3. Take a deep breath in
4. Exhale when you feel ready
5. Continue to take nice deep relaxing breaths
6. Bring your awareness to your feet
7. Feel your soles touching the ground. Really take your time. Feel each toe pad, your heel, etc.
8. Bring your awareness up to your ankles and lower legs
9. Feel them supporting your feet
10. Now bring your awareness to your knees. Feel into them as they bend
11. Bring your awareness to your thighs. Feel the backs of your legs on the chair. Feel the weight of them supporting you
12. Now feel your sits bones, your buttocks on the chair holding your body
13. Feel your lower back resting in the chair
14. Allow yourself to experience being anchored in your space
15. Continue to breathe in and out until you feel ready to open your eyes
This simple technique is surprisingly grounding!
