Happy New Year!
Feeling ready for 2026?
It’s still pretty new which is why I like to incorporate some anchoring practices as a way to create clarity going forward as well as to feel more grounded into the year.
So, for the next few weeks, as I do EVERY year 😉 I’ll post my personal faves. Things I do each year to set me up for the BEST possible year. These practices will assist you to get clear and dream into your future, so you can move with confidence and ease into the days and months ahead.
READY?
I bet you know where we’re gonna start… with choosing a word or phrase, something to focus on, dive into, and act as a theme or inquiry for your upcoming year.
But before you do that, I invite you to reflect on what your word was for 2025. How did the practice/theme of that play out for you? In other words, can you remember what you were thinking last January when you chose it? And where are you with it now?
For me, my word last year was PEACE. And let me tell you, the year really kicked my butt with that. Not only was there an avalanche of conflict, challenge and change politically in my country and in many others across the globe, but within my personal life as well.
All of this pushed me deeper into my spiritual practice, and deeper into the truth as I know it. Which is that nothing in the outer world will give me peace, even when I hope and want it to (!!!) True peace rests in my inner knowing, in the truth at the center of me. This year was super hard for me, and yet by walking through the pain of heartbreaks and sadness, I was also able to deepen into the peace that is always here for me.
What about you?
Once you’ve reflected on last year, and made room for your next adventure, it’s time to pick a new word or theme for this year.
Is reading this email giving you an idea? Sometimes one pops immediately to mind. Sometimes it takes a bit.
This year, mine took some time to bubble up before it presented itself.
Here was my process:
I began to think about what I really wanted to experience/focus on this year. (How about you? What’s your answer to that question?)
Is it healing?
Partnership?
Authenticity?
For me, the words that came were “to be able to hear the voice of God (truth, clarity, inspiration…) more easily and more often.”
That began an inquiry into how I could access that, which led me to my word: GRACE.
Why grace you might ask?
Because I realized that when I am experiencing grace, I am in the flow. I can much more readily access that voice of knowing, of serenity, of clarity, of guidance.
If my process is NOT resonating with you, here are a few other ways you could land on a word or theme.
1. Ask Directly
Take a moment to get quiet. Use your breath to anchor and relax into a more expansive space. Once you’re there, ask:
What is my word (or phrase) for 2026? Is there something specific I could benefit from focusing on?
Here’s a list of some of the words our community has shared with me over the years to give you some suggestions: focus, compassion, boldness, trust, faith, love, dream, balance, speak, mindfulness, pause, deliberate...
2. Use A Book / Playlist
If you tried #1 above and NOTHING came to you, try this cool trick.
Grab any book off the shelf and close your eyes. Think about your word for the year, what you’d like to call in, and then randomly open it. Look to where your eye lands and see what it reveals!
OR
Put on a random playlist and listen. You might be surprised by what you hear…
Once a word/phrase comes to you, try it on. Settle into the energy of it.
Is there an opportunity for learning and growth?
Is this the avenue you want to deepen into for 2026?
The invitation here is to spend the next 12 months experiencing how this word or phrase impacts your life.
If your answers feel affirming, you’re on the right track. Don’t be dismayed if you feel a bit scared. That’s often a pre-requisite to change.
Be sure to have fun with this! This exploration is meant to be joyful and exciting, not another have-to chore.
As always, let me know what you chose!
